White Topaz

Loose Colorless Topaz Gem Stones

When we talk about white topaz gemstones, we actually mean colorless transparent topaz stones. In the world of gemstones a stone that has no color of it's own is referred to as a white gemstone. Most topaz in natural form is white, pale grey or yellowish in color. Though you could find light blue topaz gems that are naturally blue, over 95% of the blue topaz gemstones that you come across are treated white topaz. Rough white topaz gems could be a have hues of yellow or grey. Heating such rough often makes them very white as they lose other color hues.

Applying various treatments to gemstones is a common practice, most gem and jewelry applications use treated white topaz gemstones. White topaz or very pale colored topaz stones are often heated and then irradiated. So whean you see those gorgeous sky blue, swiss blue or london blue topaz gems you should know that they were obtained by treating white topaz gemstones. The heating or radiation treatments for white topaz stones is done when the gems are still in their rough or preformed state.

If you have read something about topaz gems you would have heard that, topaz gem colors like pink, green or even bright yellow are rare. At the same time you might also see moderately priced gold or silver topaz jewelry with some stunning and impressive colors. Such stones are given fancy names like emerald green topaz, lemon yellow topaz etc. These cheap topaz stones are infact white topaz with a treated color layer on the surface. Many gem and jewelry providers provide confusing explanations for such coated white topaz stones, we will explain the issue in a simple and honest way.

White topaz is quite abundant and cannot attract high prices, gem manufacturers found ways of enhancing the beauty of white topaz gemstones. A process known as Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) is used to render a color on the outer surface of white topaz. What this means is that the inner portion of the treated stone is still white topaz, the color is present only on the surface of the gem. A stone treated in this way will reveal the white topaz inside if, the surface is cracked or scratched. You obviously cannot repolish or recut such CVD treated topaz gemstones. The process yields some mind boggling colors like pink topaz, green topaz, brown topaz and even gems with a rainbow like (mystical) effect. If you were to look for a natural pink topaz gemstone that is around 3 carats in weight it would be tough to find one and even if you did, would be very expensive. On the other hand a pink topaz derived from a white topaz gem stone through the Chemical Vapor Deposition process, would not cost you more than 15 U.S$ to 20 U.S$ (for the 3 carat piece) in retail.

If you decide to get a white topaz stone make sure that gem is well cut. Providing sufficient facets below the stone can make the stone glitter. On the other hand trying to get a simple cut with few facets will yield a piece that appears quite drab and mundane. Insisit on eye clean white topaz gems that have no cutting flaws or visible internal inclusions. This should be possible even for large white topaz gemstones that weigh around 6 to 8 carats.

You might be surprised to know that white topaz though not expensive is also cut into very small sizes. Many jewelry designers and manufacturers, use 2mm to 3mm round white topaz gems to produce jewelry that cannot bear the cost factor of real diamonds. The truth is that the cutting charges for such small sizes, is higher than the value of the stone (material) itself. Even with this, the cost of white topaz is cheaper than using natural white zircon or white sapphires.

This gem can appear far more expensive than it really is if, you use some fancy shapes and cuts. The drop briollette shape with a multi facted (checkerboard) cut is perfect for producing gorgeous white topaz pendants and earrings. While much of the white topaz gemstones are produced in faceted cut forms, it is possible to have a white topaz custom cut with a smooth cabachon cut. However the absence of light reflections (no facets to facilitate that), would make your cabachon white topaz gem stone look more like a piece of ordinary glass.

If you were concerned with the durability of white topaz, you can set your mind at ease. A hardness reading of 8 on the Mohs scale makes the stone suitable for all types of jewelry applications. Being a colorless stone, you really do not have to worry about a white topaz gem fading. White topaz gemstones or jewelry do not require any special care or cleaning precautions.

Directstones custom cuts all gems in the shape and size of your choice. Your white topaz order need not be large, we will gladly cut even one single white topaz gem stone for you. You can order just the loose gemstones or request for a complete jewel to be made in gold or sterling silver.

Who Is Kaisilver?

Having established itself as the world's leading online custom jewelry provider, Kaisilver now extends it's merchandise line to include gems. While there is no shortage of gem stones in the global market, reliable sources for the retail buyer requirements are not many. Most retail gem dealers work with limited inventories, this reduces buyer options. Kaisilver with it's wide network of gemstone mining and manufacturing resources, is the best source for gems of all types, shapes, sizes and cuts. With a support team that is compromised of jewelry and gemstone experts, the advice and suggestions made by the team relate to your requirements and not to fixed sales targets. How To Order?

The process to order gems and custom jewelry at Kaisilver is similar. We do not expect you to make a rush purchase. We do wish that you take the time to discuss your requirements with our experts. They will be in a position to provide constructive suggestions that will guide you to make well informed buying decisions. Email all your requirements to sales@kaisilver.com provide as much inputs as possible to help us make relevant suggestions. For example if you are keen on getting a green gemstone but, are not particular about it being an emerald mention this in your email. Our gem experts might suggest a green tourmaline or even a peridot instead of an emerald. This suggestion would reduce our profit margins but will give you a gem that, is much cheaper and even more durable as compared to an emerald. When it comes to payments we offer some very suitable options. Paypal is the preferred form of payment, it is fair to the buyer and seller. The buyer when using paypal never needs to reveal credit card of bank information to the seller. We also accept direct bank transfers but prefer to do this on a case by case basis. When it comes to online transactions these days, both buyer and seller are afraid of frauds. It is quite possible that you do not feel comfortable working with us at Kaisilver. We sometimes feel a little uncomfortable with certain transactions too and prefer to keep away from them. There have always been fears of processing payments through Western Union money transfers. With the latest fraud reports, fake sellers and even fake buyers have been pulling off many online frauds using this mode of payment. At the same time we do understand that armed forces from the U.S who are stationed in various global positions sometimes have no other mode of payment besides Western Union. We therefore accept this mode of payment but at the same time, request you to avoid this mode if you do not feel comfortable using it. Shipping is done through FEDEX and you can expect a production lead time of around 4 to 5 weeks from the date of order confirmation and receipt of payment. Every jewel is fully custom made and requires the complete attention and concentration of highly skilled craftsmen. When it comes to gems, we could provide faster lead times and this can be discussed for each specific order.
